As a high school English teacher, I'm constantly looking for YA novels that will appeal to boys. I had high hopes for this novel because it had two engaging narrators and was very boy-centered.

Because the writing is good, I'll give it 3 stars, even though it really irritated me in places. I found the bad guys to be one-dimensional stereotypes (steroid crazed, sadist rapist football players, along with the win-at-all cost high school football coach, opportunistic foster mom, corrupt policeman).

The characters and their behaviors are dead on accurate. The depiction of high school is realistic and brutal at times.
